Anglicare’s Carer Support team recently ran online foster care information sessions for people interested in finding out more about becoming a foster carer. The online COVID-safe information sessions were run as part of Foster Care Week promotions held in September to promote the amazing work that foster carers do, and to encourage more people to consider becoming carers themselves. Over 40 enquiries were received as part of the initiative.
One of Anglicare’s current foster carers is Cahli. She’s been a carer for over 10 years, and says, “I think being a foster carer is really rewarding… If people are thinking about foster care, don’t disregard it. You are an advocate for the child in your care, helping them through the trauma they have experienced.”
Cahli and her family have cared for the same child for the past decade, and consistent contact has been maintained with the child’s maternal grandparents, and now also her mother.
Anglicare has supported Cahli through her journey as a foster carer, providing ongoing training and support.
