An Anglicare Community Recovery Grant, designed to bring communities together following the devastating floods of 2022, has helped launch a local choir in Cootamundra, and it is off to a busy start!
The newly formed choir, consisting of 20 members who attend weekly rehearsals with Choir Master, Mark Brooker, has performed at local events such as Carols in the Park, and alongside the Young Regional Conservatorium and Temora Community Choirs. Later this year, they will accompany the Tin Shed Theatre’s production of Snugglepot & Cuddlepie: The Musical.
“I would like to thank Anglicare for this opportunity to create this wonderful outlet for enjoyment of our participating community members”, said Isobel Scott, choir member and committee member at The Arts Centre Cootamundra (TACC), where the group rehearses. “The choir has definitely developed something for the community, because everyone’s asking for us to perform!”
Funds from the Community Recovery Grant currently cover the cost of hiring rehearsal space, allowing choir fees to be used towards engaging a professional choir master. Ms Scott is hopeful that the choir will continue to grow in numbers, which will ensure its sustainability after the grant expires. The choir is open to adults and children 10 years and older from Cootamundra and surrounds.
