Thank you to everyone who came along for our Community Easter Egg Hunt this past Saturday in Wagga Wagga! Hosted by our regional Out of Home Care team, the fun, free event was a chance for the families and children we support to connect with each other and the local community, and to celebrate Easter with their Anglicare family.
“For children in care, providing opportunities for positive engagement with peers is essential in overcoming past trauma”, said Sharnie Hillier, Senior Care Practitioner for Anglicare. “An absolute highlight of the day for me was watching the children’s faces light up as they searched for eggs!”
This is the third year the event has been run, and it has shown to be a great way to raise awareness of Anglicare’s Out of Home Care services in the region. Open to the entire community, the day provides potential carers a chance to engage with staff and existing carers, to ask questions, and to see, first-hand, the difference carers make in the lives of vulnerable children.
“It is about celebrating fun, connection, family and community”, said Sharnie. “Today, our children can simply just be involved in a fun event. They are not identified by their trauma or the differences in their living situations.”
In the Wagga Wagga region, and throughout the areas where Anglicare operates, the need for carers is constant. There are range of carer types, from permanent to infrequent respite carers—and and all are invaluable to the children whose lives they impact upon.
