Wagga’s Ignite Mentoring program has been ‘reignited’ through its participation in the Wagga Wagga Takes 2 charity fundraising event. Wagga Wagga Takes 2 is annual event which pairs local “celebrities” with accomplished singers for duets to raise money for local charities around the Riverina. This year the event has raised over $431,000 for local charities. Ignite was lucky to be chosen to participate this year’s event and we were extremely privileged to have Chris Kelly from FaCS Housing (and one of our partners through our Youth programs) volunteer his time to be our local “celebrity” together with accomplished singer CJ.
From January until April (when the major event was held), while Chris and CJ were rehearsing their duet, we were madly promoting and holding fundraising events to help raise the profile of Ignite. On Thursday May 24 we were finally rewarded for all the hard work when Chris and Alarna Thomson, our Ignite Mentoring Coordinator, were presented with a cheque for $15,000 for Ignite from Wagga Takes 2.
Kristy Daley, Anglicare Riverina Community Services manager, said: “I would personally like to acknowledge all the hard work and commitment from the Ignite fundraising committee, with special thanks to Chris and CJ for their outstanding generosity, support and personal investment throughout the whole event.”
