Today Sydney community food provider, Secondbite delivered eight pallets of food to Anglicare, its local food agency in Goulburn. Anglicare, via its local network, will be coordinating distribution of this food to farmers and people in need in the area. The food comes from the Coles distribution centres in Goulburn, Eastern Creek and Smeaton Grange. Secondbite have made up mixed pallets from these donations to ensure a variety of food is available.
Anglicare Housing and Social Services manager, Toni Reay, said food insecurity was a growing issue in the Southern Tablelands as people cope with rising electricity, heating bills and rent. “Anglicare is seeing more families going without this winter. This donation from Second Bite is very timely for Anglicare’s Annual Pantry Appeal, and will be help local families with essential items,” said Ms Reay.
NSW Operations Manager of Second Bite, Winton Evers hopes the Secondbite would be able to make future deliveries. “We are passionate about supporting people who are doing it tough, especially our farmers. We’d like to thank Coles for their support, as well as local organisations like Anglicare that have partnered with us to facilitate this.”
Vinnies, Mission Australia and Community Plus (still unsure of adding this one) will also be part of assisting those in need.
In 2017/18 Second Bite rescued and redistributed over 13.8million kg of nutritious food to charities around Australia.
Secondbite and Anglicare wish to thank the Coles distribution centres for their ongoing support.
