The Royal Military College Band gave a special performance at St. David’s Close Retirement Village to celebrate the 90th birthday of resident, Jim. On Wednesday morning life in the usually quiet village in Red Hill was delightfully disrupted by the sound of a marching band. Neighbours and family wiped away a tear or two during the performance. For Jim it was a complete surprise and the best of treats.
Jim is humble about his extensive military service which included postings in Japan, Korea, India, England, Vietnam and Australia and he is quick to stress how lucky he was to serve with excellent soldiers. On retiring from the Army as a Brigadier, he was appointed Honorary Colonel of the Australian Army Band Corps, a post he held and greatly enjoyed for fourteen years.
Anglicare’s General Manager Retirement Villages, John Vilskersts said the performance by the Army Band was a very special occasion and he was delighted to see so many residents emerging from their units to hear and watch the Band in spite of the frosty morning.
