A new partnership between Anglicare NSW South, NSW West and ACT (Anglicare) and Resilience NSW will ensure that residents in Moruya and surrounding areas can access COVID-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) with the provision of items such as face masks, antiseptic wipes and sanitiser.
Anglicare accepted the first delivery of three pallets of PPE this week, which their team will distribute directly to those in need from their Emergency Relief Hub at Vulcan Street in Moruya, as well as share with local services to distribute to their clients.
“We’re so grateful to Resilience NSW as their support means that no individual or family needs to be anxious about whether or not they are safe and meeting government compliance measures,” says Danea Cowell, Manager of Anglicare’s Disability and Homelessness services for southern NSW. “For people who are vulnerable, living with a disability, experiencing homelessness or in financial distress, accessing these items can cause a lot of stress. This service will make a significant difference for families in this community who are struggling.”
Ms Cowell also specifically thanked local police officer, PCYC Youth Case Manager Greg Curry for his help unloading the first shipment of stock into Anglicare’s storeroom, and Sallianne McClelland for setting up and supporting this initiative through her role as Recovery Officer in Mogo with Resilience NSW.
“Such community spirit is wonderful to see,” says Ms Cowell. “We know how resilient people in this region are. We saw how people rallied together to help each other after the bushfires in 2020, and now as COVID-19 continues to cause challenges, we want people to know there is still help available.”
Anglicare encourages individuals, local schools, disability services, foster care services and other organisations to access the support which is available by appointment 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday at 51 Vulcan Street in Moruya, or phone 4474 7900 for more details.
