Anglicare volunteer, Wendy Grant, named Queanbeyan Citizen of the Year

Our Blog

We are thrilled to announce that one of our amazing volunteers, Wendy Grant, was recognised this week at the 2025 Australia Day awards for her dedication to helping the community. A former public servant at the APS, Wendy now serves on the front lines of our emergency relief efforts. For the past three years Wendy has volunteered her time and many talents to Anglicare’s Food Fair program in Queanbeyan.

Food Fair offers deeply discounted grocery items to local families and individuals struggling to afford high food costs and provides emergency food relief to those unable to pay. Wendy is motivated by helping those who are disadvantaged, saying “What we do to give to these people and help them get through their days is the thing.”

Wendy is also president of the Queanbeyan Park Tennis Club (QPTC) where she has worked to obtain facility upgrades, offer subsidised fees for junior players, increase local participation, and introduce pickleball.

When asked how she felt about being honoured, Wendy said “The truth is, I was scared to death! Most people who do volunteer work do not do it for any kind of recognition or reward. So, it was very nice.”

We are extremely lucky to have amazing individuals like Wendy as part of our volunteer team and appreciate that many of our services could not operate with them. Click here to learn more about volunteering with Anglicare.
