Anglicare advises that there has been a report of a person in an unmarked van illegally posing as an Anglicare volunteer in the Holbrook/Jingellic region during the recent bushfire evacuation in the area.
This has been reported to police and Anglicare have followed up on this. Anglicare confirms that there were no people working as part of our disaster recovery team in that region.
“While this looks like an isolated incident, we are obviously extremely concerned that this is happening in an area where people are at risk of bushfire evacuation and are already feeling vulnerable,” says Melinda Carlyle, Anglicare’s regional manager. “We wish to assure people that Anglicare staff and volunteers undergo police checks, have approved Anglicare ID and will be clearly identifiable as part of Anglicare.”
Anglicare urges people to report suspicious activity to police or to contact Anglicare’s head office on 6245 7100.
