Over 150 families local families are expected to benefit from Anglicare and St Saviours Cathedral annual Christmas Giving Tree appeal which begins this week. This marks the sixth year of the appeal, and St Saviours minister, The Very Reverend Phillip Saunders says that the response from the community, both those who donate as well as recipients, continues to be extremely positive.
“We received over 450 presents last year and we want to beat that record with over 500 presents this year,” said Rev. Saunders. “This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen connection between people in our community.”
The presents, which are distributed to families in need in the Goulburn area, are handed out by Anglicare staff and volunteers.
Anglicare’s manager of housing and social services Toni Reay said over 150 families received presents donated to the Christmas Giving Tree last year.
“Over 100 children received presents last year thanks to the generosity of the Goulburn community,” said Ms Reay. “Anglicare’s homelessness services here in Goulburn have already received calls from families desperate for assistance with presents and food over the Christmas period.”
Residents are encouraged to donate unwrapped presents at St Saviours Cathedral located at 170 Bourke St, Goulburn, on or prior to 21 December or call 4823 4000.
Anglicare would also like to thank the community for the support during 2017 and we wish you all a happy Christmas and a healthy and safe 2018.
