Over 150 families local families are expected to benefit from Anglicare and St Saviours Cathedral annual Christmas Giving Tree appeal which began in the past week.
This marks the 10th year of the appeal, and St Saviours Very Reverend Dean Phillip Saunders says, “We received over 400 gifts last year and we continue to be humbled by the kindness and generosity of people in this community to support others who are in need at this important time of year.”
The gifts, which are distributed to families in need in the Goulburn area, are handed out by Anglicare staff and volunteers.
Anglicare’s manager of housing and social services Toni Reay said over 100 families received presents donated to the Christmas Giving Tree last year.
“It’s been a rough couple of years for everyone and for many, the COVID crisis has taken a significant toll,” said Ms Reay. “That’s why this year, as we do each year, we want to bring some hope and joy individuals and families in our local community who are struggling and needing a helping hand.”
“I’m so proud to be part of this amazing community and am delighted to see the incredible impacts of the St Saviours Giving Tree in previous years. Seeing community members supporting each other is inspiring and look forward to the difference it will make for families this year.”
Dean Phillip also encourages people to consider being part of the Christmas Giving Tree initiative. “We are asking the local community to donate new and unwrapped presents to our giving tree so that we can assist those who need some support this Christmas,” he says.
Residents are encouraged to donate unwrapped presents at St Saviours Cathedral located at 170 Bourke St, Goulburn, on or prior to 21 December or call (02) 4823 4000.
