Goulburn Soroptimists donated over 150 items of non-perishable food to Anglicare’s emergency relief services this week to assist vulnerable local families. Anglicare’s regional manager for housing support services, Toni Reay, said the donation would benefit growing numbers of people approaching the organisation’s housing and emergency relief services for help.
“Winter is always a particularly difficult time for families who are experiencing housing risk. Trying to balance rental costs with rising heating costs, electricity bills and winter clothing means families can often struggle to afford groceries,” says Ms Reay. “A food hamper can give people the financial breathing space they need to get on top of other financial demands. Anglicare are extremely grateful to the Soroptimists for their generous donation.”
Anne Oliver, President of Goulburn Soroptimists says the group are pleased to assist local families in such a practical way. “We’re happy to help Toni and her team at Anglicare in the work they do bringing relief and care to families in need. We know that by providing support in this way, food is being delivered directly to those who need it most.”
Anglicare in Goulburn runs an annual Pantry Appeal to support families in need of non-perishable food and toiletries.
