Anglicare’s Bargain Hunter store in Queanbeyan has recently moved location from Monaro St to 170 Crawford St, and is celebrating its rebrand to “Anglicare Retail” and the extended operating hours of its Food Fair service which now provides affordable groceries six days a week, Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm and Saturday 9.30am-2.30pm.
Jan Farrington, who has been volunteering at the Food Fair service for the last seven months is excited about the changes. “People from different walks of life access the food service – older people, young mothers and single people. Many are struggling a great deal. Sometimes we have over 40 visits per day,” says Jan. “I feel very blessed in my life, and volunteering like this and seeing the difference it can make in a person’s life is such a privilege.”
Anglicare’s retail manager, Kaye Pritchard, hopes the new store location will suit both new and current shoppers. “Our team of staff and volunteers at the store and at Food Fair really feel like we’re a part of this community,” says Kaye. “Providing a hub like this where people can do ethical and affordable shopping, chat with friendly staff, and have access to fresh discounted food, ensures families are supported practically and emotionally. We love the work we do and we love this community!”
Anglicare’s Queanbeyan retail shop is the flagship store and the fourth in the region which includes shops in Fyshwick, Phillip and Jamison (which opened last month). Proceeds from stores go to support vulnerable local families who need extra support through Anglicare’s other community programs.
Trading opened at the new location Monday 12 March February and will operate 9am-5pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am-2.30pm Saturday. Donations are welcomed and clothing bins are located at some local Anglican parishes and schools.
